Main Duties and Responsibilities:
To safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation and shoring.
To be aware of and have working knowledge and application of design drawings, specifications and civil engineering techniques.
To apply safe methods of working through the use of personal protective equipment, correct manual handling, use of small plant and equipment such as excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws and other highways related equipment.
To apply and abide by Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act and apply safe methods of working to all activities.
To drive a range of vehicles with a gross weight of up to and including 32 tonnes Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) which could also include tractors, tippers, HIAB crane, tail lift, platform, pick ups and transit vans.
To understand and follow procedures relating to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
To understand and follow procedures relating to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome regulations (HAVS).
To carry out instruction from Management and Senior Officers.
To allocate the work to other team members and monitor the standard and performance.
To report to Operational Supervisors any concerns to allow them to be address performance and other staff related issues.
To plan workload objectives with staff to ensure that an effective service is provided at all times by the monitoring of manual operatives.
When working with a team, ensure that staff perform their duties efficiently and effectively in line with business objectives.
Ensure that all relevant information and targets are communicated to all staff within the work group.
To liaise with Clients, Officers and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
To work flexibly and in the interest of the business and be amenable to business needs.
To be prepared to work outside the Stockport Borough boundary.
To have gained or be working towards a professional qualification to NVQ level 2 or above in Construction Operations or similar or to have relevant equivalent experience
To ensure compliance with all driver’s legal requirements such as driver’s hours, pre use checks, defect reporting/rectification and gross vehicle weight limits (over loading).
The post holder will be responsible for the care of all items of ICT equipment supplied for their use, including communications equipment. There is no responsibility for cash items.
Participate in highways emergency call out and winter services during and out of hours ensuring the roads of Stockport are kept free of ice and snow in accordance with Stockport Council winter service policy and emergency response.
